The Villanova Wildcats narrowly beat the North Carolina Tar Heels, 77-74, thanks to a miraculous three-pointer from Kris Jenkins as the time expired.
The incredibly exciting national championship match will go down in college basketball history, and not just because it was the first NCAA men’s basketball win for Villanova since 1985.
The winning shot came after a Villanova timeout, when Ryan Arcidiacono helped get the basketball to Jenkins. “Kris told him he was going to be open, Arch made the perfect pass,” said Jay Wright, the Villanova coach. “Kris lives for that moment.”
Arcidiacono earned the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player honor with 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting, while Phil Booth led overall with 20 points.
