This marks the fourth title win in seven seasons for Alabama.

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Clemson Tigers 45-40 in the College Football Playoff championship, winning the title match for the fourth time in seven seasons.

Quarterback Jake Coker shrugged off a slow start to throw for 335 yards and two touchdowns. Heisman Trophy winner and running back Derrick Henry rushed for 158 yards and three scores on 36 carries.

Meanwhile, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns, rushing for an additional 73 yards.

“We didn’t always play pretty in this game,” said Alabama head coach Nick Saban. “It probably wasn’t one of our best games when it just comes to flat execution.

“But when it comes to competing and making plays when we needed to make them, it was probably as good as it gets,” he continued. “I think that’s the kind of competitors that win championships, and that’s probably why we’re sitting here.”
