Are you familiar with the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away?” It’s supposed to encourage people to eat healthy in order to avoid going to the doctor. According to numerous studies, an avocado a day is the better way!
Researchers analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and they found that avid avocado eaters were much healthier than people who didn’t eat avocados. According to the researchers, they weighed less and had much lower chances of developing heart disease and diabetes!
A different study published in Critical Reviews in Food and Science Nutrition found that avocados help your skin look young and wrinkle free! The researchers say it’s because the fruit is filled with carotenoids – the molecules that gives fruits and veggies color. This same chemical slows down skin aging and protects against sunburns.You probably don’t have to worry about wrinkles for a long time, but it’s nice knowing there is a way to slow it down, huh?
Okay, if staying in shape and being wrinkle free doesn’t interest you, maybe the fact that avocados have cancer-fighting abilities will! According to research from Ohio State University and UCLA, the fruit has high concentrations of phytochemicals, a compound found in plants that is also responsible for color. When they took avocado extract and mixed it with cancer in a tube, it killed many cancer cells, while leaving healthy cells alone!
Avocado is super well-rounded, huh? It keeps skin and body healthy, while being creamy and delicious. I think I found my new favorite fruit!
