Climb the ranks as a Disease Detective.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like trying to track a mysterious virus and save lives before it spreads, then you’ll want to download Solve the Outbreak! Created by the USA’s national public health institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this free-to-download app will infect your mind with educational fun as you play the part of a Disease Detective.

Once the app begins, you’ll get to choose one of three different scenarios to investigate: a sickness that began at a birthday party, a disease spreading through a college, and a virus in Kenya. Then, the game offers more detailed background information about the events that led to the outbreak, and that’s where the entertainment truly begins.

Pick up your magnifying glass and sharpen your wits, because you’ll have to interrogate sick people, develop lab results, and even quarantine (isolate) sick villages! It won’t be easy, either, since your decisions can dramatically affect the quality of your results. For instance, in the birthday party situation, choices like telling the guests that raw eggs were to blame or interviewing the family who hosted the party creates different consequences.

In order to nail the highest score, you’ll have to approach each person and disease with careful thought. Fortunately, the game’s presentation is beautiful, informative, and highly interactive. So, what’s our final verdict? We give this app an “A”.
