After Brazil’s dramatic 7-1 loss to Germany on Tuesday, they then had to watch their longtime archrivals, Argentina, advance to the finals with a victory over the Netherlands. Ouch!
Argentina’s semifinals match against the Dutch ended in a 0-0 tie, which then had to be broken in a 4-2 penalty kick shootout.
Even though the USA had been eliminated by Belgium a week ago, they tuned in to the Argentina vs. Netherlands game in record-breaking numbers. Their semifinals battle was the highest-rated and most-viewed World Cup match that didn’t involve the USA Men’s National Team, on ESPN and ESPN2, ever!
Now, Argentina will be facing the mighty Germans on Sunday for what ought to be an epic finale to the World Cup.
