Aston Martin, one of the most legendary luxury sports car companies in the world, unveiled its 2015 V12 Vantage S Roadster this week. The gorgeously sleek and stylish vehicle can crank up its speed to 201 miles per hour, and can go from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds!
How can this masterpiece of engineering and design move so fast… in so short a time? Well, it’s all about the engine. This latest Vantage comes with a 565-horsepower Aston Martin 6-litre V-12 that’s a real beast of machinery.
If you’re wondering what exactly horsepower means, the word originated in the late 18th century from James Watt (yes, the same guy whose last name is responsible for the electrical “watt” power on light bulbs), when he measured how much coal ponies could lift at a coal mine. On average, they could lift 22,000 pounds of coal to a height of one foot (foot-pounds), in one minute. Since a horse is roughly 50% more powerful than a pony, he estimated they could move 33,000 foot-pounds per minute. So, every 1 horsepower in a car is equal to the force required for a horse to lift up 33,000 pounds in 1 minute!
Anyhow, back to the Aston Martin, it has ultra-customizable suspension – a system of balance in the car that makes sure wheels can stick to the road, even when it’s uneven. The Vantage S Roadster has 3 suspension modes – Normal, Sport, and Track – that changes how much the car helps out with steering. Sport mode comes with extra perks that really give ultimate control of the vehicle’s power, speed, and handling on the road.
No one knows how much the new Aston Martin is going to cost yet, but the Coupe version of the car is around $235,000, so you can expect a more expensive price tag on the Roadster!
