Goalie rockstar Semyon Varlamov blocked 37 shots from the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night, helping the Colorado Avalanche land a 3-2 victory. While Varlamov earned his 100th NHL victory, Brad Malone knocked in his first goal of the season, with Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reilly also scoring. The Avs are now in second place in the Central Division, but Duchene says, “We are happy to be in second place, but that’s not our goal. We want to keep pushing and climb as high as we can.” Chicago didn’t take the loss easy, putting up a fight with Patrick Kane and Brandon Saad each getting one past the immovable Varlamov.
