On Monday, the Buckeyes beat the Ducks 42-20, earning the National Championship trophy. Not even Heisman quarterback Marcus Mariota could stand up to Ohio State’s Cardale Jones.
“The chase is complete,” said Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. “It’s done. It’s over. They accepted their final mission, their final assignment and their final directive, and they did it. That was our whole mantra this last couple of weeks. A job well done, and we’re very grateful.”
The historic 4-team College Football Playoff kicked off the New Year with the Allstate Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl games. The Oregon Ducks were the first to advance to the title game, after crushing the Florida State Seminoles 59-20 in the Rose Bowl, and Ohio State finished off Alabama with a 42-35 upset of the top-ranked team. Considering that Ohio started the first major college playoff as the 4th-ranked final seed, their victory over the Ducks came as a big surprise to some.
