Well, it looks like Disney’s going to the dark side with yet another villainess!
Now that their Maleficent film is in the works, letting us see the other side of the Sleeping Beauty story, Disney’s turning its sights on 101 Dalmatians.
I can already hear the music playing, singing her name! Cruella will spotlight the dog-fur-wearing fashion queen in all her glory.
Produced by Andrew Gunn, who was responsible for Sky High and Bedtime Stories, the film will center around the character who first appeared in Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmations. In 1961, the novel was turned into the now famous animated Disney movie.
This is not the first time Cruella’s gone live-action, since actress Glenn Close played her in 1996’s 101 Dalmations and the 2000 sequel 102 Dalmations. What’s funny, is she’s involved in this one too, except as an executive producer.
The newest film will be written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who is best known for her work adapting The Devil Wears Prada, Annie, and is already helping Disney with their upcoming Cinderella script.
