Does your tummy hurt?

Don’t do this.

Have you ever had such a bad stomach ache, that you couldn’t even think about eating food? I have, and it’s the worst feeling in the world! Why does it hurt so bad? Here’s some reasons why your tummy might ache.

I’m sure you’ve heard that eating too much sugar can leave you clutching your stomach and groaning in pain? Apparently, eating too many sugar-free products could do the same! You see, many sugar-free products – like chewing gum – contain a chemical called sorbitol. Consuming too much of this chemical can cause stomach pain and diarrhea. Yikes! I’ll make sure to eat natural sugars only, like lactose.

Lactose is commonly found in dairy products, like milk and cheese. However, people who are “lactose intolerant” can’t digest it! When they do consume the sugar, they suffer a range of symptoms like indigestion, bloating, abdominal pain, belching, and farting! If you’re lactose-intolerant, stay away from dairy products to avoid a painful experience.

Okay, what if you’re away on a nice camping trip with your family by a lake and you get

a stomach ache? There’s no fridge for you to keep milk in, and there aren’t any stores for you to buy sugar-free gum. What the deal, then? Well, if you’re swimming in a contaminated lake, you might have contracted parasites into your body! Many of these organisms cause stomach cramps, the runs, and nausea! Yuck.

If you don’t like milk and have never been camping, stress could be the cause of your pain. Symptoms of stress include high blood pressure, and of course, some tummy trouble. If you’re feeling stressed, take a break from life’s craziness and just let yourself breathe. Turn on some chill tunes and put your feet up. It’ll definitely untie the knots in your stomach.

Hopefully, with this information under your belt, your tummy will be pain free. If one thing’s for sure, I’m going to avoid sugar-free gum for a while!
