Ellen DeGeneres to host the 85th Academy Awards

It’s Oscar season, and we’re definitely not talking about the sour grouch from Sesame Street! The most recent announcement about the highly anticipated 85th Academy Awards (the Oscars) comes from Ellen DeGeneres. On Friday, Ellen tweeted, “It’s official: I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia, and oh dear, there goes the orchestra.”

It’s not Ellen’s first time hosting the Oscars, however. In fact, The Academy (the big group of guys who cast all the votes) liked her so much in the 2007 Academy Awards, they’ve asked her to come back now for a second time in 2014!

Ellen is already receiving praise from fans as well as the producers of last year’s show. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are returning this year to produce the Oscars and have mentioned that, “As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together, and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars. There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are.”

Ellen DeGeneres will take center stage on March 2, 2014 to host the Oscars. As soon as nominations roll around, we’ll be sure to keep you informed, readers!
