The 71st Golden Globe Awards featured many star-studded cheers and laughs. Here’s the top chuckle-inducing and tear-jerking moments from the show…
Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler delivered their usual sarcasm, with a heavy dose of silliness. “American treasure” Tom Hanks was called out, although there was some pretend difficulty pronouncing his name as “Tam Honks” in case his ego was swelling. While the jokesters listed the mighty A-listers in the crowd, they made sure to point out that not all actors are equally special, calling Matt Damon “basically a garbage person” in the presence of such superior talent! Meryl Streep was complimented as being above most, but not before the devious gals ducked in, “there are still great parts in Hollywood for Meryl Streeps over age 60.” Ouch!
So, how about the Most Charming Speech Award? Well, I’m making that up, but it was clearly Jennifer Lawrence after winning Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle. After all, the ultra laid back Hunger Games star is still somehow uncorrupted by Hollywood. She talked about how nervous she was giving the speech, confessing, “I don’t know why I’m so scared. It’s obviously a good thing… I’m sorry I’m shaking so much! Don’t ever do this again. It’s so scary,” and heaping praise on her fellow nominees. Fellow Hustle star and adorable redhead Amy Adams teared up while accepting her first ever Golden Globe Award, as Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, thanking her daughter.
