Become a high-tech artist with the DohVinci

The DohVinci is actually a lot like a glue gun, only it does not need heat to work.

When it comes to 3D printing, almost anything can be built. For example, the medical field uses living cells to create body parts and space agencies make rocket engine parts. Now, it’s time for kids to get in on the fun with Hasbro’s DohVinci, the first handheld 3D Play-Doh printer!

The device features a container to hold the colorful substance and an “extruder” to squeeze it out in whatever wacky patterns you want. It doesn’t use the regular, thick Play-Doh that typically comes in those yellow containers, though.

Instead, Hasbro created a special “doh” that will harden overnight. So, if you’re working and unhappy with your progress, you can simply erase it and start over again. Once the masterpiece is perfected, it will set by the time you wake up in the morning, and even last up to a year before it cracks and crumbles.

There is one drawback to the design, however, and that’s the fact that a kid will have to wait for one layer to dry before they can print on top of it. That means that a munchkin will have to be extremely patient to create true 3D designs, otherwise it will resemble a very creative 2D art piece. Other than that, I don’t see why the DohVinci wouldn’t be a fun toy to have around the house for projects or during arts and crafts activities!
