There are several ways to have fun while you exercise, but let’s face it: running isn’t one of them. The monotonous activity takes a ton of physical and mental effort, and it’s tough building up endurance. As dull and difficult as running may be, the health benefits are hard to deny, and you can follow some simple tips to make it less tedious!
Why bother running if it’s rough on your body? Well, one study found kids who exercise more on a regular basis are more likely to have better grades than those who work out less! Another research experiment discovered that exercise practically replaces the need for basic medicines. Running is also one of the best ways to burn calories, and it can dramatically increase a person’s lifespan. Finally, a good workout can severely reduce the risk of cancer!
Despite all of the great perks, it can still be difficult to put on a pair of jogging shoes and step out for a quick run. Thankfully, there are some simple tricks that’ll bring a little more joy to your intense calorie-burning routine. Step one is to forget any bad running experiences you’ve had in the past, since they probably left a bitter impression and will just discourage you. Also, choose manageable goals, by starting off at a comfortable pace and aiming for a moderate distance. Third, be sure to increase the intensity of your work out little by little. If you run around your block 4 times, try to complete 5 laps next time. Another way to make running more tolerable is to take a friend with you. Not only will it feel good to have a buddy battling beside you, they’ll be able to motivate you to stick with a consistent running routine.
Who knows, maybe with enough dedication, you’ll be ready to run a whole marathon! Featured image courtesy of mikebaird on Flickr. Image of sunset runner courtesy of aarmono on Flickr.
