HBO is giving robot cowboys a shot

Yeehaw! HBO has ordered Nolan and his wife Lisa Joy to co-write the pilot script for Michael Crichton’s classic, Westworld, and bring it to the TV screen with the help of Star Wars director J.J. Abrams. This particular theme park gone wrong story actually influenced Jurassic Park!

The original Westworld production is set in a realistic adult amusement park called Delos that features robotic androids that are almost indistinguishable from human beings. For $1000 bucks a day, guests can live out their wildest fantasy of being a cowboy by interacting with these androids that are programmed to act in character for the park’s themed worlds – West World (the Wild West), Medieval World (medieval Europe), and Roman World (a pre-Christian Rome). The main attraction in West World is the mighty robot gunslinger that, thanks to its programming, will always be outdrawn by the human. Now, what happens when the robots get a mind of their own and start causing rampage on the unsuspecting vacationers?

No word yet on whether or not J.J. Abrams has enlisted the Star Wars clone troopers to fight in the battle against the robotic gunslingers, but we can only hope.
