Do you think Bill Nye the Science Guy has the perfect equation for the Cha Cha Slide?

Yesterday, the celebrities of Dancing With the Stars (DWTS) were finally unveiled. Besides the usual mix of reality TV stars and athletes, come a few familiar faces: Amber Riley from Glee, Corbin Bleu from High School Musical, Bill Nye “the Science Guy,” and Broadway actress Valerie Harper, who has recently battled brain cancer.

Dancing with the Stars is pretty self-explanatory. The contestants are celebrities that pair up with professional dancers in hopes of winning the title of the swiftest pair of feet. Each couple performs a dance based on the theme of the week and competes against the others for points and audience voices. The couple that receives the lowest amount of points and audience votes is eliminated each week until there is a champion!

However, this season, things are going to be different. Since the 17th season will only air once a week, the show will drop the “celebraquarium” – the place where fans and judges can watch the actors backstage like fish in a bowl – and interview the couples before they perform. Despite the fact that there will no longer be a results show in which they spend the entire episode figuring out the numbers while celebrity guests perform, DWTS will still have plenty of musical acts.

Now, what everyone’s really wondering about is Valerie Harper, but she assures us that her brain cancer is no reason to feel sympathy. In fact, Executive Producer Conrad Green encouraged people to focus on supporting her bravery. “She sees this as an opportunity to say to people who have a devastating illness that you can get up there and enjoy life, embrace it, and make the most of it. She loves to dance. She danced on Broadway 50 years ago. It’s about getting back to her passion,” he said.

As for the rest of the cast, the celebrities joining DWTS are Elizabeth Berkley, Brant Daugherty, Bill Engvall, Keyshawn Johnson, Christina Milian, Jack Osbourne, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, and Leah Remini. You can catch DWTS on ABC, Monday nights at 7 pm starting September 16! If you’re anything like me, you’ll watch it while sulking on the couch, wishing you knew how to dance…
