So, not only is Taylor Swift the reigning champ of the Top Country Albums Chart (she topped the list for twenty-four weeks!), but she’s also leading the nominations for this year’s Country Music Association (CMA) Awards! Well, actually… she’s tied (gasp!) for the number one spot with newcomer, Kacey Musgraves, who captured the attention of listeners with her “different” approach to Country Music.
Instead of singing about the hardships of the stereotypical cowgirl lifestyle, her lyrics talk about the dark side of rural American life. Her album “Same Trailer Different Park” has earned her nominations for top female vocalist, best new artist, album of the year, single of the year, and two other awards that are handed out to songwriters for collaborating with other artists. Not to mention, she’s made CMA history for being the first female newbie on the scene to get six nominations!
Both Swift and Musgrave each scored six nominations, and were followed by singers Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert with five. Okay, here’s where the competition gets tough! Swift – well everyone knows Swift and her singing – is also up for top female vocalist and album of the year. Are we gonna see these ladies duke it out on stage for the top prize? Nah… Musgraves is just happy to get a chance to be in the audience. In fact, she had no idea she would be nominated for that many awards until her roommate started shouting for her to check out the nominees!
“I had no idea I’d make history,” Musgraves laughed off the friendly competition. “It’s really cool, I love that. All facets like that are equally important to me, especially the songwriting. To be recognized for all those things makes me feel good.”
Anyways, don’t miss the show and the potential knockout duel between two of Country Music’s sweetest voices! The CMAs will air on November 6, and be hosted for the 6th year in a row by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood!
