J.K. Rowling says Hermione never belonged with Ron

Harry Potter did always seem like a better match for Hermione Granger. I guess it was meant to be “Hermione Potter” all along! Sorry Weasley fans.

J.K. Rowling dropped a bombshell on Potterheads, completely turning the relationship between Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger on its head. Seven years after writing the last Harry Potter book, Rowling confessed that Harry and Hermione should have ended up together.

What better way to reveal her secret, than in an interview with Hermione herself? Speaking to actress Emma Watson, a guest-editor for Wonderland magazine, Rowling said, “I know, I’m sorry. I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.” Well, she’s definitely breaking Ron’s heart!

So, why did she go against her writing instincts in the first place?

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment,” she admitted. “That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.” I always knew deep down that it should’ve been Harry and Hermione, the two brilliant magical nerds falling in love! Ron always felt wrong, so I guess that makes me one of the Potterheads who’s glad for the news.
