J.K. Rowling pens a new Harry Potter short story

What have the legendary wizards of Harry Potter been up to years after they first attended Hogwarts? They now have families… and jobs!

Harry Potter fans recently caused the mega popular J.K. Rowling site Pottermore.com to crash on Tuesday, when they flooded the servers to read Rowling’s first update on the wizard in 7 years! Yep, by signing up for a free Pottermore account, you can read the gossip-column style short story in the Daily Prophet. Penned by the character Rita Skeeter, the article talks about what Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger have been up to in their 30s!

The humorously sarcastic article is written in Skeeter’s usual snarky tone of voice, and covers the arrival of the famous wizards to the Quidditch World Cup event (Pottermore has been Quidditch-fying the actual World Cup in Brazil, through a series of short news pieces lately). Apparently, the three heroes who defended Hogwarts from Lord Voldemort… or should I say, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named… joined the Ministry of Magic after starting their families, to continue defending the world against the Dark Arts.

Weasley, however, left his job to become co-manager of the wildly successful joke emporium shop, Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. His wife, Hermione, stuck with it and is now the deputy head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Of course she would be…

Even lesser characters got a cameo in the piece, like Luna Lovegood (who could be seen wearing robes made up of all 16 flags from the World Cup’s qualifying teams) and Neville Longbottom (who’s a “popular Herbology Teacher” at Hogwarts). I won’t spoil the rest of it for you, but it’s definitely worth a read and an account registration on Pottermore.com!
