Derek Jeter, the legendary captain and shortstop for the New York Yankees, played his final game last night in Yankee Stadium.

He went out with a bang, too, with a game-winning walk-off single during the 9th inning that sent the Yankees 6-5 over the Baltimore Orioles.

“I want to take something special from Yankee Stadium,’’ said Jeter. ‘‘The view from shortstop here tonight is what I want to take.’’

After 20 seasons, fans will miss their beloved captain, who is a five-time World Series Champion.

He’s viewed as being pivotal to the Yankees’ rise in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and is the team’s all-time career leader in hits, games played, stolen bases, and at bats.
