Monday morning, Katy Perry released the lyric video to her newest single “Roar.” The song was leaked over the weekend and is the first taste of Katy Perry’s upcoming album “Prism.” Roar sounds like your typical uplifting song to listen when the rain clouds are at their darkest, but it also sounds like… Sara Bareille’s “Brave.”
Now, we don’t know all the details or if Perry really did copy Bareille, but if you haven’t heard both songs, you should. They have a similar drumbeat, melody line, and the lyrics are also vaguely related. “Brave” encourages listeners to get out of their comfort zone and be brave, while Perry explains the song as an ode to “being a fighter,” and picking yourself up when you’re down.
There has been no word from Perry or Bareille’s representatives, but both artists seem to be completely unfazed. In fact, in the past three days they’ve actually tweeted each other! “I heart you @Sarabareilles,” Perry tweeted, along with a link to Sara’s song “Brave.” Sara tweeted, “All love, everybody. All love. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤” in return.
Are they trying to avoid a catfight and is this musical mess being blown out of proportion? Well, either way, I love both artists and maybe this means we’ll get a Brave/Roar mash-up sometime soon?
