Let’s get ready to ruuuuuuumble! If you don’t have a Twitter or an Instagram, then let me tell you right now… maybe it’s for the best. Fans of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have been going absolutely hectic on both social networks in defense of their pop idols. With Katy Perry’s “Roar” and Lady Gaga’s “Applause” both being released within days of each other, fans are desperate to get their new fave song to the top of every chart.
Well, The Hollywood Reporter may have just crushed little monster dreams by reporting that Perry’s new single “Roar” just keeps getting bigger. As of three days ago, the first report of sales on “Roar” indicated that Katy Perry would sell 450,00 copies of the single on her release date. On Sunday, August 18, the newest industry reports stated that “Roar” would actually sell about 525,000 to 550,000 copies. Debuting at roughly 550,000 copies for her first sales week will easily give Perry the biggest sales of the year for a song, and most likely be her largest hit since “Firework.”
Now, for Lady Gaga? Well, the sales for “Applause” aren’t looking too impressive, or remotely close to knocking this roaring kitty off the charts. “Applause” is expected to sell 200,000 to 225,000 for the week. How are little monsters reacting to this?! Our sources, and by sources we mean Twitter fans going crazy with trending topics, say that Lady Gaga will still reign supreme once her newest album comes out. That’s another battle I can’t wait to see!
“Roar” is the first track on Perry’s newest album Prism, while “Applause” is Gaga’s first track on ArtPop. Both albums are set to be released within two weeks of each other – Perry’s on Oct 22 and Gaga’s Nov 11 – and will battle for the number one pop album released at the end of the year.
So, whether you’re putting your paws up or your claws down, can we all agree that 2013 is going to be a good year for pop music?!
