Even though Mariano Rivera is most likely the greatest MLB closer of all time, he’s certainly not going out with a bang in his final season. Against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, the New York Yankees held a 4-2 lead going into the ninth, which should have been an easy present for Rivera to tie the bow around. Unfortunately, though, he gave up home runs to Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez. According to ESPN stats, this is the first time that Mariano Rivera has blown 3 straight save opportunities. While the Yankees still won thanks to Brett Gardner’s walk-off home run, Mariano’s recent games are certainly putting a black mark on the tail end of Hall of Famer career.
