Maleficent casts a spell

Maleficent
The new Maleficent poster is pure evil! The movie, which releases on May 30, 2014, is Jolie’s first on-screen role in three and a half years.

Angelina Jolie… can you think of anyone who better captures the darkly enchanting sorceress, Maleficent, from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty? I sure can’t. While Jolie’s charming smile and selfless humanitarian services in the real world are anything but the acts of a villainess, there’s just something devilishly awesome about her.

At the D23 Disney convention earlier this year, fans were treated to the always-lovable Jolie, as she talked about the upcoming movie Maleficent. She said, “Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her, know what she was like and who she was. She had this elegance and grace, and yet she was so cruel, just wonderfully and deliciously cruel.”

Now, a new poster has just been released in which Jolie’s face is exquisitely draped in the horned headdress worn by the 1959 animated movie version of Maleficent. Her fierce emerald eyes dig their claws right into your very soul!

The official plot description of the movie reads: “A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal — an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom — and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.”

If your appetite is all worked up now, Disney has unveiled their official teaser today, which you can see below! The short clip shows actress Elle Fanning as Aurora, as well as Vivienne Jolie-Pitt (yes, the child of supercouple Brangelina) playing the young version of the princess.
