Muppets Most Wanted, which releases on March 21, premiered on Tuesday night at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. The flick’s Hollywood stars, which include Tina Fey, Josh Groban, Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Danny Trejo, made their way across the red carpet in the company of dozens of Muppets like Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie Bear.
The sequel to 2011’s The Muppets is a comedy crime musical, where an evil Kermit lookalike named Constantine masterminds a major robbery while framing Kermit for his crimes.
The movie went out of its way to pile up major celebs, featuring cameos from Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Celine Dion, Zach Galifianakis, Christoph Waltz, and Ray Liotta among others. As for the double-threat comedy power of Fey and Gervais, the lady comedian plays a hilariously wicked Russian prison officer named Nadya, and the infamously sarcastic Brit plays Constantine’s diabolical sidekick, “Dominic Badguy” (but he makes sure to tell the Muppets his last name’s pronounced “Bad-G”).
The film has been described by director James Bobin as “a tip of the hat to the old-school crime capers of the ‘60s, but featuring a frog, a pig, a beard and a dog – no panthers, even pink ones – along with the usual Muppet-y mix of mayhem, music, and laughs.”
