After announcing recently that Wii U and 3DS sales had failed to reach sales goals, Nintendo says it’s still planning on supporting consoles. That means they won’t be jumping ship to smartphone gaming, and are refusing to release titles on non-Nintendo mobile gadgets.
“The spread of smart devices does not spell the end of game consoles. It’s not that simple,” said president Satoru Iwata. “It doesn’t mean that we should put Mario on smartphones.” The same goes for Zelda and Pokemon as well, partially because releasing it on non-Nintendo devices would hurt 3DS sales. The Pokemon Company, however, has tried releasing its games on different platforms, like the Pokedex app launched in Japan last year.
So, if you’re looking to score some mobile Link, Mario, or major Pikachu-tastic titles, you’ll have to get a 3DS or Wii U for now!
