Elves, doomed romance, and secret agents, oh my! Orland Bloom recently spilled his acting heart and future movie wishes to Entertainment Weekly during a Google+ hangout, and his answers may surprise you.
First off, since Bloom played Legolas in all of the recent Lord of the Rings movies, he was asked what other mega series he’d be down to get involved in. His reply? “I want to play James Bond, are you kidding me? I’m putting my name in the ring!”
Speaking of Legolas, it’s one of his all-time favorite characters he’s ever played, right up there with his current role as Romeo on Broadway. Bloom said, “Legolas is my soul and then Romeo is my heart – really this year, I’ve had the chance to live my characterial dreams – is that even a word, characterial?”
As far as role models, he really looks up to his Lord of the Rings pal, Viggo Mortensen. “Viggo Mortensen had the biggest impact on me in terms of approach, dedication, intention, and artistic outlook and I’m nowhere close to how good he is as an artist and I wouldn’t even put myself in the same category as an actor.”
He’s also an admirer of young actors like Ryan Gosling, James Franco, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, admitting that they sometimes intimidate him acting-wise. “I look at my peers and I go, wow! Some of these young guys…Joseph Gordon-Levitt just directed his first picture and I’m like wow, am I just really slow?” he said, adding, “Would I like to direct? Maybe one day.”
