The legendary Beatles musician, Paul McCartney, surprised fans by announcing a last minute concert in New York’s Times Square on Thursday.  He and drummer Ringo Starr are the only surviving members of the British rock group that also had John Lennon and George Harrison.

Passing tourists, locals, and workers from nearby businesses crowded together to enjoy the sweet tunes from McCartney’s upcoming album, “New,” which released on October 15. He tweeted an hour before the mini-concert, saying, “Wow! Really excited to be playing New York Times Square at 1 p.m. this afternoon!”

The brief, 15-minute long lunchtime concert pleased audience members, like Said Hamden, who said, “I loved it. It is hard not to like this band. They have been playing together for so long; they just make perfect music every time they hit a stage.”

On his website, the singer describes his new songs as “quite varied and not necessarily in a style you’d recognize as mine.”
