Four years after Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, there’s still a lot of hard work left to rebuild the lives of those affected by the disaster.
Fortunately, kind-hearted celebrities like Sean Penn still care about helping the country get back on its feet. Recently, he hosted his third annual Help Haiti Home gala (party) and raised $6 million!
Major stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, and Chris Martin took to the red carpet on Saturday before mixing it up inside the Montage Hotel in Los Angeles.
“This town has been very supportive of me, and, more importantly, what our organization is doing in Haiti,” expressed Penn to PEOPLE Magazine. “I got a lot of gratitude and no complaints.”
Michael Douglas, who went to the event by himself, admires Penn. He said, “I’m impressed with what he’s done with the Haitian relief. He’s not afraid to learn and be vulnerable.”
Actress Bette Midler was equally pleased with the event and Penn’s tireless efforts. She enthused, “Everybody’s a fan. But his intelligence, sense of humor and sense of idealism in the face of so many roadblocks and constraints – the fact he keeps going – is really inspirational to a lot of people. Sometimes you get exhausted and tired, he doesn’t.”
