Serena Williams wins 6-0, 6-0 in US Open quarterfinals

Serena Williams played a near perfect game in the US Open quarterfinals, taking out Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro with a 6-0, 6-0 game. This “double bagel” – meaning she won two sets “to love” (opponent scores 0 points) – is only the second 6-0, 6-0 victory ever in a US Open quarterfinal. If she wins two more times, no matter the scores, she’ll earth a 5th title at Flushing Meadows and her 17th major championship. When asked if her performance was almost flawless, Williams replied, ”Of course not,” as she laughed good-naturedly. “I played good, though. I played really good. I was just more focused than anything. You know, I like to believe there is room for improvement.” As for Navarro, she reflected on Williams and admiringly expressed, “She’s the best player in the sport.”
