Tennis champion Serena Williams has had a rocky road this Grand Slam season, failing to make the quarterfinals in the first three majors. Fortunately, she flipped it all around at the US Open, defending her crown and winning it for the 6th time this weekend!
With an unbeatable blend of offense and strategy, Williams conquered Caroline Wozniacki, 6-3, 6-3 . The match was definitely one-sided at times in Williams’ favor, as she delivered tennis ball lightning bolts across the net with determination. Just a few weeks away from her 33rd birthday, Williams’ victory marks her 18th major title.
“You’re an unbelievable friend,” said Wozniacki, who’s a “bestie” with Williams, “and you definitely owe me drinks later.” Sure enough, 6 hours later, Williams treated her buddy to a girls night out. I’m sure the $5 million from the US Open win made it affordable!
As for the men, Marin Cilic earned his first ever Grand Slam title by defeating Kei Nishikori in a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 game.
