Shailene Woodley donates hair to charity

By Melissa Platero, CCNN Writer

Shailene Woodley is saying goodbye to her lovely locks of hair to undergo a drastic makeover for her new film The Fault in Our Stars. The movie is based on John Green’s best-selling novel and focuses on two teenagers fighting cancer. To keep with the theme of the book, Woodley is donating her signature locks to a charity benefiting kids who have lost their hair.

Green announced the news via his Tumblr blog and encouraged readers to follow in Woodley’s footsteps. He wrote, “Shailene Woodley is cutting her hair this weekend to prepare for her role as Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars movie. And she’s donating her hair to Children with Hair Loss, an organization that provides free wigs to kids who’ve experienced hair loss due to cancer, burns, or other medical conditions. When Shailene told me about this, I immediately thought there might be people in nerdfighteria who want to join her. (We already have one convert joining in: Shailene’s mom!) So if you have eight or more inches of spare hair, consider donating it to Children with Hair Loss… I want to be clear that this was entirely Shai’s idea. (I don’t even think the studio knows about it.) I hope if you’re able, you’ll consider joining Shai in donating. Thanks!”

If my hair wasn’t a curly mess, and could grow longer than eight inches, I’d be the first in line to get this up-do cut. If you want to help support the cause, Green is prompting fans to post pictures on their own Tumblr pages and tag them with “#hairforhazel” or “#itgrowsback” so that he can make collages and post them on his own blog. You can find the main page to the organization here.
