Several studies have shown how harmful soda can be to our health. It contains tons of sugar, which can lead to weight gain, different diseases, and even give you a hideous smile. Just one can of Coca-Cola can have as much as 40 grams of sugar! What are some things we can do to kick this harmful habit to the curve?
The first good habit to practice isn’t hard at all. Just drink plenty of water! Sometimes when we are thirsty, we drink soda to refresh us, but all the sugar can actually dehydrate us and make us feel even more thirsty! Water can satisfy our thirst in ways soda just can’t. Doctors recommend we drink 8 tall glasses of water every day. I know, it sounds like a lot of water, but you’d be surprised how much you can drink when you put the soda can down and drink a glass of water.
After getting used to drinking the sugary beverage, it’s not surprising that many people find the taste of water a bit plain, so here’s the second helpful tip: add some flavor to your water! I don’t mean adding fruit punch mixes like Kool-Aid and Country Time Lemonade, because they can have just as much sugar as soda and be just as bad! Instead, add real fruits like lemon, limes, and watermelons for a refreshing kick! If you want to get really creative, you can freeze the fruit chunks into ice cubes to put in your water to keep yourself hydrated in style.
Easy access to soda can make cutting it from our diets much harder than it needs to be, so the last tip is to not keep soda around the house. If you go to the grocery store with your parents, don’t ask them for the soft drink. It’s much easier to chose between a soda can and a glass of water when your only option is water.
If you are still having a bit of trouble kicking soda to the curb after all these tips, get some support from your friends and family. You can even ask them to join you! It will be a great way to keep yourselves healthy and feel good.
