Billionaire Elon Musk is really making a name for himself as a modern day Einstein. Not only is he pushing the envelope of futuristic electric cars with his Tesla Motors company, he’s also taking on major space tech companies like NASA, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing with his SpaceX rockets. Now, he’s setting his sights on getting humans to Mars, and not just for a visit!
“The reason SpaceX was created was to accelerate development of rocket technology, all for the goal of establishing a self-sustaining, permanent base on Mars,” explained Musk after receiving a scientific award during the 33rd annual International Space Development Conference. “And I think we’re making some progress in that direction…”
He’s not exaggerating, either. SpaceX has already successfully tested their reusable Falcon 9 rocket, which can save millions of dollars by returning to Earth safely, and they’ve made deliveries to the International Space Station with the SpaceX Dragon capsule. Musk’s next goal will be to take human explorers to Mars, designing a next-generation rocket much bigger than “Falcony Heavy” to get the job done.
See, Musk believes the next stage of human evolution is to become a multiplanet species. Talk about big dreams! If anyone can pull it off, he’s definitely the one to root for.
