On Sunday, “May the 4th be with you” Star Wars Day brought together fans across the galaxy to celebrate the Force. Disney wisely took advantage of the lightsaber mania and released an official trailer for the Star Wars Rebels animated series, which will debut this fall.
Directed and produced by Dave Filoni, who worked on the popular The Clone Wars series, the latest entry in the Star Wars universe will take place between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.
As the Empire expands its reach, the first sparks of rebellion will ignite, setting the stage for the Rebel Alliance that will one day take down Emperor Palpatine.
The Clone Wars may have followed a wide variety of characters, but Filoni says that Rebels will focus on one main group, similar to how the original trilogy centered around Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa.
Freddie Prinze, Jr. will voice Kanan Jarrus, a renegade Jedi who uses his blaster more often than his lightsaber to avoid being recognized. He’ll command the “Ghost” freighter, joining forces with 14-year-old thief Ezra Bridger (voiced by Taylor Gray), tough-as-nails alien sidekick Zeb Orrelios (voiced by Steve Blum), Twi’lek pilot Hera Syndulla (voiced by Vanessa Marshall), and the beautiful-but-dangerous Mandalorian Sabine Wren (voiced by Tiya Sircar).
