Steven Spielberg to launch new sci-fi show “Extant”

Earlier in the year, Steven Spielberg took the challenge of recreating Stephen King’s Under the Dome for CBS. After the crazy success of Under the Dome, Steven Spielberg is back again to give CBS viewers a brand new show to obsess over. The network has ordered a 13-episode run for his newest sci-fi drama Extant. The show is described as a futuristic thriller focusing on a female astronaut, who is trying to reconnect with her family after returning from a yearlong mission in space. The show will focus on her experiences and how they have led to events that will ultimately change the very course of human history! Sounds crazy exciting and just a little bit scary.

The president of CBS, Nina Tassler, says that Extant “is a very original concept with layers of humanity, mystery and surprise that reveal itself throughout the script. Our partnership with Amblin for ‘Under the Dome’ showed that viewers respond to high-quality event programming in the summer. We look forward to building on that with ‘Extant’ and offering CBS audiences another high-concept, unique event for summer television.”

Extant is set to premiere in the summer of 2014, which is also when Steven Spielberg and CBS will be releasing season 2 of “Under the Dome.” So, keep your calendars marked, because both these shows are going to put a scientific twist on your summer.
