Super vision with telescope contact lenses

By Casey Frye, CCNN Writer

If you ever wanted to zoom in with your eyes like a telescope, boy do I have news for you! A brand new ultra zoom contact lens has been developed, in part with funding from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). With built-in telescope abilities, the contact lens can switch between magnifying an image and regular vision, so long as you’re also wearing some special 3D glasses.  Merely press a button on the glasses and suddenly filters will adjust how much light goes into your contacts, passing through either their magnifying or non-magnifying parts. DARPA wants to use this super vision for the military, but the technology can also help people with health problems in their eyes. Human tests of the contacts will take place at the end of the year.
