The Cartoon Network has a lot of animated hits under its belt, but few of them pack quite the punch that The Powerpuff Girls do. Although the original series ended 10 years ago, the CN knows how popular the reruns and toys are, so they’re finally bringing back Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup with fresh episodes!
These tiny gals aren’t just adorable, either, because they’re superhero role models for young ladies everywhere. See, Professor Utonium was trying to create the perfect little girls, when he accidentally added “Chemical X” to his mixture of sugar, spice, and everything nice. Blammo! The rest is history… or should we say HERstory? Needless to say, the pink, blue, and green trio are proof that you can be tough, beautiful, and sweet.
After their original debut in 1998, these mini firecrackers have blasted all kinds of villains and monsters with their ultra powers, while still dealing with normal kid stuff like sibling rivalries, losing teeth, going to school, and having trouble letting go of that security blanket.
“The original Powerpuff Girls was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide,” says Rob Sorcher, the chief content officer for Cartoon Network. “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”
