Countries around the world consider it a tremendous honor to be chosen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the host nation for the Summer Olympics. Every 4 years, athletes from all corners of the globe come together to compete in a wide variety of sports like baseball, archery, golf, gymnastics, fencing, diving, and more. Most recently, in 2012, the Summer Olympics were held in London, United Kingdom. In 2016, it will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Now, the 2020 Summer Olympics location has been announced as Tokyo, Japan! Despite all the recent bad news about the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant radiation, Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe, told the IOC, “Let me assure you the situation is under control. It has never done and will never do any damage to Tokyo.”
