Twilight fans are very familiar with Peter Facinelli as the kind-hearted Dr. Carlisle Cullen. What they may not be familiar with, are his dreams of being a writer! Yes, move over Stephenie Meyer, because one of your vampire-creations-come-to-life just might be invading your territory.
Okay, so maybe there’s no sparkly vamps in After the Red Rain, the young adult novel being co-written with author Barry Lyga, but there is a young boy with inhuman powers named Rose.
When Facinelli was asked about why he chose the young adult genre, he said, “The story is what came first. And it felt like the YA market lent itself the best for the story we wanted to tell. We felt like our story had something to say to the YA market because the characters themselves were young adults.”
Since the boy’s name is Rose, which is an unusual name for a boy, Facinelli explains, “He is a different boy, very vulnerable in some aspects, but with a strong purpose and understanding. It is that combination of strong and weak in one person that is embodied in his name. Like all of us, he desires to find his true purpose in life, despite not knowing exactly who he is and where he comes from. He is confident but inside him he needs to come to terms with his obvious differences and understand if finding out his history will help him.”
Well, color me intrigued, because the novel will also be exploring a dark future where humans have overpopulated the Earth. Just how many people are crawling all over the planet? 50 billion! Whoa! I wonder what powers this Rose kid’s going to have, and how he’s going to get anywhere in that crowded mess. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you posted as new details emerge!
