By Alejandro Freixes, CCNN Head Writer

Well, the US has never quite been known for its soccer prowess on the global stage, but this month it  finally broke into the top 20 of the FIFA rankings. The last time this happened was two years ago! The rankings, released yesterday, placed the US at the 19th spot. Their victory at last month’s Gold Cup vs. Panama certainly helped. Spain, of course, remains the top dog, with Germany second, and Columbia third.

If you’re looking for the top 10 FIFA rankings for August, they are as follows:

1. Spain                          6. Italy

2. Germany                   7. Portugal

3. Colombia                   8. Croatia

4. Argentina                  9. Brazil

5. Netherlands           10. Belgium
