Yu Darvish’s near-perfect game against Houston Astros

By Alejandro Freixes, CCNN Head Writer

On Monday afternoon, Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish carried a perfect game into the bottom of the sixth inning. After throwing a low breaking ball that looked good for strike three, Darvish and catcher AJ Pierzynski were so convinced it was a strike, they literally started walking off the field towards the dugout. However, the umpire Ron Kulpa called ball two, and Darvish was denied his 12th strikeout against Houston’s Jonathan Villar with two outs in the sixth. Pierzynski got a bit annoyed and mouthed off to the umpire, which led to him getting ejected from the game! Ouch! Darvish shrugged it off and kept his no-hitter alive and well until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Carlos Corporan hit a solo home run. It wasn’t quite enough to beat the Rangers, who defeated the Astros 2-1.
